Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR): a type of nuclear hormone receptor within cells that ultimately affects gene expression. There are 3 types of PPARs: alpha, gamma, and beta/delta. These receptors play a major role in the maintenance of metabolism, cell differentiation, and inflammation.
