Definition of Parabiosis

Parabiosis: surgical joining of the blood supply of two living organisms. (The origin of the word is from the Greek para, meaning 'alongside', and bios, meaning 'life'.) Parabiosis is a technique used in physiology research to test how circulating factors in the blood of one organism act on another different organism. The technique was first described over 150 years ago.
