Hypoglossal neuropathy: Disease of the hypo'glossal nerve. Paralysis of the hypoglossal nerve affects the tongue, making speech sound thick and causing the tongue to deviate toward the paralyzed side. In time, the tongue diminishes in size '(atrophies).
